Research Opportunity!

Dr. Ashley Greene and Dr. Oscar Ocuto are conducting a study to explore how family interactions and the home environment influence language development in Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between families’ self-estimates of their deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) child’s sign language development, the actual assessed sign language abilities of the child, and the home language environment, including reciprocal interactions between the child and family members. The study aims to identify discrepancies between perceived and actual language development and how these may correlate with the quality and quantity of language exposure and interaction in the home.

If you are a parent or guardian of a child aged 0-5 who is deaf or hard-of-hearing, we’d love to hear from you! Your participation will help us better understand the language needs of DHH children and improve support for families like yours.

What’s Involved?
- Participate in surveys about your child’s language use.
- If interested in Phase II: Allow researchers to observe and record your family’s language interactions at home.
- Flexible scheduling to fit your routine.

What do you get from it?
- Chance to win a 1 year membership to your local children’s museum for a family of four!
- Phase II: Individualized information about your child’s language development

Eligibility:
- Reside in the United States.
- Be the primary caregiver of a DHH child.
- You must be over the age of 18.
